In the very same passage of Scripture where Christians are instructed
to be "doers" of the Word and not hearers only, James, the
half-brother of Jesus, tells us that pure religion is to care for
orphans and widows. I am thrilled with the launch of Hope For 100, a
campaign to challenge Green Acres families to obey God’s Word by
providing, loving, Christian homes for children through adoption or
foster care.

When visiting Mother Teresa's
orphanage in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 1991, I met two infant girls who
needed to be brought to the United States for medical treatment. John
and i adopted one of the girls and named her Bridget. I also helped
coordinate the adoption of the other girl named Mickey. From the day
we brought Bridget into our family, we have experienced firsthand the
incredible blessing and adventure of adoption. As I have travelled the
world, I have met so many orphans needing the love of a father and a
mother. I am always pleased to hear of efforts like Hope For 100 which
has as its core the commitment to make a lasting difference in a
world of need.

One of the greatest joys in my life is sharing with others the value
of adoption. In fact, my book Twice
Adopted tells the
story of Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman who adopted me as an infant and
later in life, my adoption by God into His family. There are fewer
causes, if any, more worthy of our time and attention than providing a
loving family to a fatherless child. I stood up and cheered when I
heard the vision of Hope For 100 to provide 100 foster kids and
orphans with loving, Christian homes. May their efforts be multiplied
beyond their wildest dreams.

A staggering 143 million orphans long for the love of a forever
family. Without parents, children are often deprived of the love and
protection they need and are susceptible to abuse, illness, poverty
and other injustices. In the face of such tragedy, there is no more
poignant expression of love than for a mother and father to receive an
orphan as their own child. Today God is stirring the hearts of His
people to this incredible need and opportunity. There is a movement of
an increasing number of churches and evangelical organizations
worldwide who are coming together as one voice to take action on
behalf of the orphan. I enthusiastically support Hope For 100 in their
efforts on behalf of the fatherless and have no doubt they will
experience the blessings and favor of God as they champion the needs
of those who are so precious in His sight.

When my life on earth is over, I will likely be remembered as a
Hollywood actor who played in many films. None of them will have
received more attention than my role as Jesus in "The Passion of the
Christ". And that certainly has been a big part of my life. However,
more than all the films and all my acting career is something far more
important: the role of husband to my wife, Kerri and father to my
adoptive children, Bo and LeLe. I am grateful for the opportunity to
help bring awareness to Hope For 100, which has as its aim to provide
100 orphans and foster kids with loving, Christian hopes and to serve
as an example to other churches to do the same.
