FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HOPE FOR 100 CHAMPIONS “ORPHAN SUNDAY” IN TYLER
Part of Hundreds of Events Across America Taking A Stand for the Orphan
(TYLER, TX, OCTOBER 30, 2009) A prairie fire of grassroots events calling
individuals to care for orphans and foster youth will sweep the country on
Orphan Sunday, November 8, 2009. Hundreds of “Orphan Sunday” activities will be
hosted by churches, organizations and individuals across America, highlighting
the plight of orphans and how people can make a difference in their lives.
Locally, Hope For 100 is sponsoring special services at Green Acres Baptist
Church. In conjunction with National Adoption Month, people who have been
adopted will be recognized in all three services.
Hope For 100 founder Rocky Gill remarked, “Orphan Sunday is a milestone
event. Since Hope For 100 was launched in January at GABC, we have found loving,
Christian homes for more than 70 orphans and foster children. We are rapidly
closing in on our goal and Orphan Sunday will provide a significant boost of
awareness to our efforts. In the near future, we hope to report full success of
this important campaign to find loving, Christian homes for 100 orphans and
foster children.”
November 8 marks the first time hundreds of orphan-focused events will be
held nationwide on a single day. These events range from sermons and Sunday
School classes in churches to concerts, prayer gatherings and service projects.
A “Live from Nashville!” music event featuring Steven Curtis Chapman will be
streamed nationally and is available free to the public at the Green Acres
Baptist Church Lighthouse beginning at 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 8.
There are more than 500,000 children in the foster system in the U.S.,
with nearly 130,000 waiting to be adopted. Globally, an estimated 15 million
children have lost both parents. Supporters hope the vast number and diversity
of “Orphan Sunday” events will create a powerful echo, waking both awareness and
action on behalf of children who have no family.
The Orphan Sunday movement is spearheaded by the Christian Alliance for
Orphans, a coalition of more than 50 orphan-serving organizations, including
Hope For 100.
PLEASE NOTE: Jim Caviezel, adoptive father of two special needs children
and actor from Passion of the Christ, will be the guest speaker on Orphan Sunday
during all three GABC services. At his request, he will have NO contact with the
media; NO interviews, photos or video will be allowed. He has also request NO
pre-publicity Thanks for respecting his request.
